Folk music of Uttrakhand refers to the traditional and contemporary songs of Kumaon and Garhwal regions in the foothills of Himalayas and has its root in the lap of nature. The pure and blessed music have the feel and the touch of nature and subjects related to nature. The folk music primarily is related to the various festivals, religious traditions, folk stories and simple life of the people of Uttarakhand. Thus the songs of Uttarakhand are a true reflection of the Cultural Heritage and the way people live their lives in the Himalayas. The Music and its development have seen various phases of growth and have undergone lots of transformation during the course of time.

There are many kinds of Folk songs from the area, including ceremonial Mandals, martial Panwaras and melancholy Khuded , Thadya and Jhoda.

Musical instruments used in Uttarakhand music include the dhol, damoun, turri, ransingha, dholki, daur, thali, bhankora andmasakbhaja. They are the musicals that are synonymous with almost all the songs and dances. Tabla and harmonium are also used, but to a lesser extent.

Parampara Sanskritik Group is a folk group of Uttarakhand formed by Nupur Culture Welfare Society. The group consists of folk dancers, singers and instrumentalists from the various parts of Uttarakhand. Parampara Sanskritik Group is formed to revive our traditional heritages of folk music and dance in such beautiful form that it deserves to be. Our India has vast cultural folk heritages that have the feel and charm of its rich flora – fauna and folk.

Every successful performance depends on how much practices have been done. So dance rehearsals are the most important part of Parampara Sanskritik Group. Dance rehearsals timings of the group are as per following schedule

• Every selected group member has to be present physically and mentally during each group rehearsals in Kendra and during programs. Attendance will be taken
• Each selected member can introduce new folk artists for the Parampara Sanskritik Group. Selection of the new member will be finalized by the director of Nupur
• Each selected member is expected to pay mutual coordination and compatibility with other group members to keep unity of  Parampara Saskritik Group
• Misbehavior may cause cancellation of group membership/programs and that particular member may be expelled from the group/programs
• Payments of any paid program out of the expanses bear by Nupur will be granted to the performing group artists as per contribution

• Nupur reserves all rights regarding the Parampara Sanskritik Group, selection of programs, group members and update the terms & conditions without giving prior information/discussions to any group members, rehearsals timings etc at any time, if find necessary, to serve the objective of Parampara Sanskritik Group
